The Slice

Welcome to "The Slice"! A weekly review of a pizzeria of my choosing. It's a jungle out there, and knowing your options is important. But don't worry, you're in good hands...and so is your pizza. Let's eat!

Jet's is famous for its Detroit style deep-dish. There are locations all over Michigan and some even popping up in the Chicago area as well. It is certainly a fan favorite in The Mit (Michiganders get the reference).

For me, I like Jet's, their ranch is incredible! ("But the pizza?", you ask) Right! Let's get to it...I rate pizza using the following criteria: Crust, Sauce, Cheese, Toppings, and Overall using my "slice" rating system, with the highest possible being 5 slices. Here we go!

Crust - Depending on what you get (round vs. deep dish) it's a very different story. The deep dish crust is crunchy around the edges (especially the beloved corner pieces), and doughy in the middle. The round crust has a hearty bread flavor and is also a little on the doughy side. For Jet's, crust is a weakness in this reviewer's opinion...unless you're in the mood for carbs! But, that corner piece tho... I give the crust 3 slices!

Sauce - The sauce is a classic red sauce marinara. It is quite good, you get less of it on the deep dish, but on the round, it's perfect! Jet's sauce is noteworthy. I give it 4 slices.

Cheese - The other claim to fame - the "fresh mozzarella" statement appears in every ad. They nail it when it comes to cheese! It stretches, it's gooey, and it is certainly fresh. The cheese is my favorite thing about Jet's, 5 slices to Gryffindor (Jet's)!

Toppings - Not very remarkable, although the sausage is my favorite. It is thick cut sausage and is rich and savory in flavor. Calling all carnivores on this one! Jet's makes a pretty famous BBQ chicken pizza, but the sauce is the boss on that one, not so much the chicken. That and the Hawaiian are good eats off the beaten pizza path. Nonetheless, I mark Jet's at 3 slices for toppings.

Overall - For me, Jet's is unique...they fall into an as of yet unnamed category of pizza which I will call, "pizza brownies". The thickness of the deep dish with the thin layer of sauce, cheese and toppings is definitely worth the money. You will not go hungry! And get that ranch to top it off! The first time you have it, you will like it (maybe even love it!) and you will have never had anything like it. Jet's (a local Michigan favorite) gets 3.5 slices from me!
